What Are Aquatic Plants?

There is a close relationship between aquatic plants and floating leaf plants. The Aquatics differ from their counterparts in that their rooting systems dissolve and absorb nutrients. There are some aquatic plants that float as well but usually most of them are submerged. Aquatic plants are very useful in a pond as they clean it up in two ways.

Firstly Aquatic plants consume all the rubbish at the bottom of the pond. They also ensure that the pond remains clean by supplying oxygen when its needed. I personally believe that you can never have a hygienic pond if you do not introduce these fascinating water cleaners into your pond.

Basic aquatic plants guidelines

A clean pond is good for the water creatures and you can keep it clean by either installing a water pump or filter or by planting underwater aquatics. I believe that the second option is much more cheaper but it all depends on the individual preferences. These plants are usually very adaptable to different situations.

Do not plant aquatics if you pond is full of mud and other pollutants such as cement. Clean the pond thoroughly first and then go ahead and add your planting.

Tips on growing aquatic plants...

Different plants require different environments for them to thrive. There are some aquatic plants that need warm, shallow, stagnant water while others need the opposite. Read and understand the information on the labels before you start planting them in the pond. Check all new plants for pests and diseases before you introduce them to your water garden. Clean them in water first.

Water Hyacinth floats on the surface and produces orchid-like blooms in late summer. It requires some protection in winter.
