Pond Care Pond Salt | Remove Fish Health Problems
Koi & Gold Fish Health Problem Reducer
Koi, goldfish and other fish species actively maintain a natural balance of potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium and magnesium electrolytes in their body fluids. These are removed from the water by chloride cells located in the gills. These electrolytes are needed by pond fish in order for oxygen uptake, release of carbon dioxide and ammonium across gill membranes. The lack of electrolytes can cause fish health problems.
Pond Care Pond Salt
Pond Care POND SALT is an all-natural salt made from evaporated sea water and not just common table salt (sodium chloride). It provides all the necessary electrolytes that your garden pond fish need to survive and develop. During periods of illness and stress, a fish's gill function is disturbed. This can lead to osmotic shock, caused by the loss of electrolytes through the gills. Osmotic shock reduces the intake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide and ammonium from the gills.
POND SALT reduces the risk of osmotic shock by replenishing natural electrolytes fish need. Heavy fish loads and overfeeding often results in higher than normal nitrite levels. This is particularly true with new garden ponds. Nitrite enters the gills and impairs the red blood cells ability to transport oxygen through the koi or gold fish's blood supply, eventually leading to nitrite toxicity. POND SALT effectively reduces the toxicity of nitrite (NO2) ... 145 oz jar treats up to 1,200 US Gallons

Usage For Garden Ponds with aquatic plants
- 1. Certain pond plant species are sensitive to salt. When plants are present in the pond add this lower dosage: Add 370 g (1/4 cup full) for every 100 US gallon of pond water. Distribute evenly around the perimeter of the pond.
- 2. After one hour, measure the salt level with a Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.1%. If the salt level is too high, make a partial water change.
Usage For Fish Ponds without plants
- 1. Add 2-1/2 cupfuls (730 g) of Pond Salt for every 100 U.S. gallons of pond water. Distribute salt evenly around the edge of the pond.
- 2. After one hour, measure the salt level with a Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.2%. If the salt level is too high, make a partial water change.
Usage For Disease treatment
The Koi and gold fish health problem, caused by parasitic infections and fungal infections can often be cured with a short term salt bath e.g. trichodina, chilodinella, ichthyobodo, and epistylis).
- 1. Using a sanitized plastic container, dissolve 2 ½ cupfuls (730 g) of POND SALT in 10 U.S. gallons of pond water (Don't use tap water).
- 2. Carefully place the infected pond fish in the salt bath for between 5 to 10 minutes max. In order to prevent the fish from jumping out of the container cover it with netting.
- 3. After 10 minutes, place the treated fish back into the pond.
- 4. Salt bath may be repeated in 24 hours, if necessary.
Pond Care Pond Salt - How often can you use
Once added to a pond, salt does not evaporate and is not filtered out. Pond Salt should be added as directed with each water change (i.e. when water is pumped out of the pond and new water is added), or when fish have been treated with medications. Do not add Pond Salt when topping off a pond, unless the test results from the Pond Care Salt Level Test Kit indicate salt is needed.
